Pregnancy and Tattoos
Hi my fiancé and I are thinking of having a child. I am supposed to get a tattoo in January how long should we wait to get pregnant after I get my tattoo? I have heard that you need to wait after getting a tattoo to breastfeed how long do I need to wait?

With the timing of pregnancy or breastfeeding, the main thing would be to just see how you do with the tattoo... whether or not you happen to develop any infection or reaction (which is not common, but can happen). Some women get tattoos during pregnancy, but some feel it would be better to either have it done before becoming pregnant, or wait until after baby is born as a precaution. With breastfeeding, other than the small risk of infection, it would have no impact. Just be wise in choosing who you go to for having it done, they will usually open everything right in front of you.

I would skip the tattoo altogether, since there is a risk of hepatitis.

There's a very slim chance of hepatitis I have a friend who is a tattoo artist where I live and my fiancé got his tatto from him and he opens the needle and gets new ink and everything right in front of you and I know a lot of tattoo artists and they all do that and all have told me there is a very very slim chance of that it would take a moron doing a tattoo to get hepatitis. But I have a friend who will do mine. And I know he won't let anything happen like that

Why take that risk to your baby? Sounds pretty selfish to me!

Be careful about giving a reddie. You are only supposed to give them when you are factually incorrect. I was not incorrect. Although you are using a new needle, the remainder of the equipment could have traces of blood. I still do not understand why you would put a baby at risk (albeit a slight risk)?

I am not going to get a tattoo while pregnant!! Never would I do that!! I was simply asking if I could get one before getting pregnant without it hurting the baby if I breast feed!! And asking this question obviously shows that I Don't want to put the baby at risk! So please do not say that I am going to put my child at risk I don't appreciate it!

If you want to get a tattoo then go for it... your young and healthy and your not expecting yet. By the time you do get pregnant chances are you will be well on your way healing... and by the time you start breast feeding if you choose too then there will not be any adverse affects on the baby... I say go for it... you know the person and you trust the person... why not?

The tattoo will not affect your future baby in any way... the tattoo will take only a few weeks to heal and the ink does not go far enough into your body to harm you. With the way tattoos are done now there is little chance of getting anything from the tattoo machine. If your worried at all just wait for your tattoo to heal before conceiving.
