    1997 Honda Accord Troubles
Well I checked through the message board and found no answer for my troubled car, so I will ask for help in hopes that someone might know what the problem might be. Well beside the engine light lit up, whenever I press on the gas pedal the car seems to stall a bit before it would actually take off. Mind you I had the tranny rebuilt about a year ago and is good for another 100,000 miles. I've had the spark plugs replaced and had an oil change, too, I even went and bought like an ext. for the air filter... I thought it was my alternator at first cause car was dying out to find my battery corroded, so I replaced the battery, too. I did however discover oil leaking from where the spark plugs sits... is this a real bad thing? Also I had cleaned the engine, do you think I could have possibly wet the distributors? And if I did what or how much harm would this be to the car? And is this an expensive repair(s)?

    Hi, azyanhonee!

Greetings and WELCOME to the site! I just moved your question that you had posted in Introductions to this topic area so that it would get the most exposure to those who are best able to answer it. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves and we try to not ask questions there.

We would appreciate it if you would return to Introductions sometime to tell us a little about yourself though, if you would be willing to do that.

    Thanks!

. Check for codes, since the Check Engine Light is coming on.

. Replace, rotor, distributor cap, ignitor, and coil--all standard stuff that should be done to ensure the integrity of the ignition system. Ignitors and coils should be replaced every 120,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first on Hondas. Your poor performance may be related to a failing ignitor and coil. Here's how to do it yourself:

. Wipe down spark plug wires with silicone spray.

. Remove cylinder head (valve) cover and replace the spark plug seals. This will prevent oil from getting into the spark plug tubes.

It's not a good idea to clean any modern-day engine by hosing it down. It's too easy to short out alternators and ECMs.

If problems continue, perform tests in Sections A and B below:

OK everyone, thanks so much for your help. And I meant to do an introduction first... don't know what I did afterwards, but I do apologize and I will have an introduction presented asap.
