    Soffit decoration above kitchen cabinets.
Hi, I am from Indiana and I am redecorating my kitchen with a primitive/country décor. I have maroon checked curtains, a farm table, etc. My walls are a light tan and I have medium oak cabinets. I do also have 2 windows. General decorating is not a problem as I have a primrose and cinnamon border up and love everything I've done so far. I have a 12 inch soffit with the old off white plastic tiles that I really do not want to tackle. But I would like to decorate in some way to cut down on the visibility of the off white tile. The tile is on one entire wall and then above my cabinets on 2 other walls. Can anyone suggest anything that I could use to help cut down on the look of the tile and add a more country look to it?

Would you put pictures or shelves up? Would you put corner shelves up.

Please respond with any and all ideas!

    Thanks so much!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the tiles being a "soffit". Normally, that which would be considered to be a soffit would be that which is on the underside of something architecturally. Are they flat against the wall or something that hangs out, please?

Regardless of how they are, have you considered painting them in some decorative way? Like maybe with flower or or leaf patterns of some kind? Just some ideas about that...

One idea that I have, would be to draw attention away from them to that which might become the focal point in the room. Focal points don't necessarily lend to a room having a balanced look. But, they can draw people's attention away from that which you don't really want them to notice as much.

I'm not sure how much space that you have, but maybe a large, antique chopping block or antique bread cabinet or antique pie cabinet might do the trick to draw the attention away from something else.

Again, just some ideas for you...
