Do your parents give you your privacy?
    Especially aimed at guys.

I'm 18 and I'm living at home with my parents and two younger brothers. When I go to the toilet to do a number 2 I usually lock the door. I thought this was pretty normal until my dad starts to flip. He says we shouldn't lock doors in 'this house' and says I'm being paranoid. He also wants me to change in the sink area of our hotel when there's no partition. Then again my dad sometimes gets changed in the corner of the living room.

This could even be no problem but my dad is very intrusive. And sometimes just opens the door by accident when I'm in the shower. My brothers often barge in without knocking as well and leave the door right open. He says I'm teaching my brothers bad habits by locking the door but they still strip down in public they're both younger than 8.

    Just wanted some neutral opinions.

    Do you lock the door?

    Are your parents intrusive?

    Do you get your privacy?

Do you think its right for you to occasionally see your parents on the toilet?

Or right for them to see you getting changed when they accidentitly open the door?

You are 18, maybe its time to start looking for a place of your own.. the only person who is not allowed to lock the door is my 5 year old while toileting (just in case he gets locked in) you should tell your dad you need privacy and lock the door.

I'm sorry to answer this way, but it's what I think. Forgive me.

Your dad is a secret voyeur and is using his power over you as a parent to guilt you into participating.

There is no such thing as "accidentally" opening the bathroom door where someone is showering. PLEASE realize what I am saying, he isn't being forthright.

When he accuses you of teaching bad habits by locking bathroom doors, you should HEAR the illogic in his words and suspect something. I'm worried for you that you don't.

I know he's your dad. So you can choose to do nothing with this, but you WILL lock your doors when he's around and check for hidden cameras. I'm just saying.

Let him flip when he can't get into the bathroom while your pooping. Just let him. "I know, I'm crazy, I love a locked door. I'm a rebel." And leave it at that.

I don't think he does realise I'm adult. He treats me like a ten year old and gives me no respect. If I question his his sarcasm he threatens to 'box me round the face'. Harsh I know but he's a bit macho like that. Insde I think he's insecure.

I don't know if I could just lock the door and disobey him but I really have nothing to be ashamed of- its just the principle that hurts the most.

When my brother bursts in I'm usually behind the door so no one sees if they glance in, he even makes fun of me for this. He not my biological dad. I don't think there's any funny voyeur business going on. I wish! Id get him sent done straight away.

What's the point in hiding? Maybe next time the door is flung open I may just act like nothing happened and if he looks ill ask something casually 'like are we going to wal mart today dad?' while totally nude. And if nothing happens I may have to walk around nude in the bathroom with the door open a few time until they get annoyed.

Moving out isn't an option right now but I'm slowly trying to get my indepence.

    Hmm. That option may work.

You know, while eating dinner, just get up, and say, "God, I'm getting really warm."

And just strip bare... and sit back down, finish dinner.

... awkward moment? Absolutely. Key point made?. I think so.

No offense but you need to stand up for yourself... your 18 and you have very little privacy... lock the door anyway... if they don't like it then explain to them that your 18 and you need your privacy... if that doesn't work... you should probably try to find a place of your own.

Was he in prison? Sometimes people who have done time have a thing about locked doors. All joking aside, it seems odd to me, but his house his rules so guess you'll be stinking it up with the door unlocked until you can get out of there.
