    Doggy Kitty Question
 I have a 2 yr old male Shih Tzu and a 6 month old female domestic short-haired cat. The two are the best of friends. They sleep together, try to share food, they play. They're adorable. But how do I keep my Shih Tzu from humping the kitty? And the Kid? And the Neighbors? He doesn't do it all the time. Just sometimes. It's annoying and sometimes embarrassing.

Why is it that the cat goes nuts when the dog gets back from the groomers? She hisses and swipes with paws and growls. Does she not recognize him? Please help?

    Hi,
Has your dog been neutered? If not, I would have it done. It does stop most of the "humping", and also calms the dog, taking away the mating aggression.
Sounds like your dog and cat have a wonderful relationship. It could be that after grooming, your cat sees your dog in a different way, or also might smell different human smells all over him.

He comes home with all these new scents on him and she doesn't like it. ( perhaps she prefers him " dirty") LOL
As for the humpidy hump hump... Neuter if not already, also try a squirt bottle and blast him right on the nose as soon as you catch him in the act.

    Hi,
I disagree with this quote from the answer before this one:
"also try a squirt bottle and blast him right on the nose as soon as you catch him in the act."
If he has not been neutered, then he is acting out of natural urges. These urges are normal, and won't be stopped by squirting him with anything. He will just wonder "why" did you do this? It won't solve the issue, because he doesn't think he is doing anything wrong; it's normal for him to be this way.
    Best wishes.

I appologise for not making myself clearer.. If the dog has been neutered a squirt bottle will curb his actions with time.. (this is a painless detourant) this is why I wrote "Neuter if not already" before the water bottle suggestion. I agree that if he is not neutered there is no point, a tazer wouldn't stop him ;)

Neuter your pet, this will help greatly, thousand of unwated pets are sitting in shelters waiting for a home, also in our home we have the no no can... it is a soda can with a few pennies in it when our dog does something that it not wanted we pick the can up shake it and say no!! The water bottle works better for our counter walking cats.
