?? Not doing anything is not a requirement for a better chart, you can use a dry erase board as things change. It is the job of the parent to force and make them do the chores before they do other things

He/She asked for a good chart, not a better chart, which means that it's quite possible that she doesn't have one yet. And actually if you go to Google and type in "chore charts for kids" there are several links that come up. Check them out! It looks like some are customizable. :)

How about this on the refridgerator:

SALLY EARNED $30 THIS WEEK BY:

Cleaned her room on Monday ______________________
Cleaned her room on Wednesday ___________________
Cleaned her room on Friday _______________________

    Washed dishes on Tuesday ________________
    Washed dishes on Saturday ________________

Did something helpful without being asked #1 ____________
Did something helpful without being asked #2 ____________

The lines are for YOUR signature/initials, not hers. All she has to do is complete the tasks and get an initial. And don't be TOO picky, let her "get away" with little things here and there and catch her on others. Don't make every event about getting it perfect. We KNOW you would do the dishes better...

Oh, and let her know every time she completes this chart 3 weeks IN A ROW she will get an additional bonus... a new blouse or new pair of pants, or a $25 bonus. Something.

You don't need a great chart, you just need something with her in charge of it.

When she needs money for special events, that gets added to the BOTTOM of the list:

STUFF SALLY IS DOING TO EARN DISNEYLAND MONEY:

    #1 _____________________ value: _____________

    #2 _____________________ value: _____________

    #3 _____________________ value: _____________

    #4 _____________________ value: _____________

Let her come up with the ideas on her own instead of telling her. You come up with the values, or negotiate with her. Remember to let her "win" some of these negotiations, too. You want her to feel encouraged, and you want her to do it on her own.

Yeah, you are. I got $10 a week in 1978.

If you're going to give an allowance, it needs to be enough to teach a kid something about money. He needs to be able to DO something, GIVE something, SAVE something... can't accomplish that on $5. That won't buy lunch most places.

You guys are lucky! We never got an allowance growing up. We chipped in with house work because that is what a family does. (or so our parents told us)

My daughter gets $5.00 a week for making her bed each day and putting her things away at the end of the night.
If we start adding things to her list - we may give her a raise!

I didn't get an allowance either when I was growing up and I was born in 1983. I just did what was asked of me for free. I got RIPPED OFF. Lol

I didn't receive an allowance per say but I did have a house over my head and food to eat and toys to play with etc, etc, etc.

I have three kids (9.5, 6,5) I'm sorry but there is NO way I'm paying out $90 a week for my kids to pick up a mess that THEY made in the first place.

I give my kids a small prize once a week and a bigger prize every other week. They are perfectly happy with this.

Now there are times that they get more. I do give them $5 for every A, $3 for B's on each report card and we rent movies every other week and have pizza, plus extra money for field trips etc.

I think it is crazy for a child to expect to get paid to do chores. This just teaches them that the world owes them something.

A good chore chart is wise. Once she gets the hang of it you shouldn't need to use it any longer. My children have always picked up after themselves so it's not hard, but it may take your daughter longer to get in the swing of things if she's not been doing it thus far.

I hope all works out well.
