Connecting plastic utility box to abs
I am putting in a new laundry service. I would like to know if is it OK to glue (connect) my plastic roughed in laundry utility box straight to the ABS pipe. I was told by a friend that you need to come out of the box with PVC and then connect to the black ABS pipe through some type of union? Thank you for your time.

Technically speaking if the washing machine box is a PVC plastic (sinilar to my picture below) then you should transition from ABS to PVC before cementing the washing machine box to the PVC. This transition can be accomplished by using a shielded clamp (see picture below)... it is available at home depot or Lowe's.

If washing machine box is ABS and pipe is ABS then cement them together no issue!

Let me know if you have any more questions...

Let me add another option to Marks answer. In place of a shielded coupling you could purchase a small can of primer and a can of Oatey All Purpose Glue and simply glue the PVC washer box onto the ABS stand pipe. Sound like a plan? Tom

Good answer Tom: that pipe has to glue into the recessed w/m box. Using All Purpose Glue is the way to go !
