How do I get clips from my DVD?
Hello, I am having trouble in getiing clips from my DVD - I want to make fan videos in Windows Movie Maker, but I'm not sure how to get the clips. I have downloaded several DVD converters, but when I try to convert it to JPEG for example, it disallows it due to copyright laws. Do I need to rip the DVD first to actually record clips? I'm very confused :( Does anybody have any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated!

If your DVD is copy protected you may not be able to rip it or get clips or stills from it. While "fan videos" might qualify under the fair use doctrine, you might still need to get permission from the copyright holders.

After getting permission from the copyright holder I heard you could duplicate your disk for archiving and then go from there the steps you already tried.. might work.. if not let us know.. I'll watch more computer infomercials to see how they do it.. lol

adam7795 your solution is much easier... programs such as nero or ulead or pinnnacle give you the tools to record frames from your video.. called a capture frames button... just hit capture to start and hit it again to stop then edit whatever you captured.. good luck
