Only wets on a potty pad inside
I have a mini dachshund that is 2 years old. He will only go potty on a potty pad inside the house. I have tried putting one outside, but he holds it until he comes back inside then goes straight to it.
Please help! What can I do to get him to go outside?

Maybe you could try putting a potty pad outside so he gets the idea he can go outside too?

We have another dog that uses outside to potty, doxie won't follow his lead. Have put the doxie in the area used to potty thinking he would get the idea... no luck.

Yep, like doxi doesn't get to come in until AFTER he goes potty. And if he needs a hint and wants to come in, go get a potty pad.

The problem, as I see it, is that you have a very well-trained dog. What would your advice be if someone wrote "My dog will only go potty at his bathroom spot outside. If I bring him inside and encourage him to go, he waits until we get back outside where his bathroom spot is." Most of use would ask why you want to mess with success. So, is there some reason that you don't want him to use the pee pads inside? If there is, here's my advice. Let your dog continue to use the pee pads inside, but when you see him use them, give him a command like "go potty". Eventually you want to be able to take him to the pad, say go potty, and have him go. Then start taking your dog on long walks outside, and use the "go potty" command after you have been active for a while. Hopefully the two together will get the dog to understand that it's OK to go outside.
