    Puppy with no appetite
I have a new eight week old puppy. He is half chihuahua and half pekinese and weighs two lbs. when we brought him home he was playful and energetic but after a few days he became ill and quit eating. We took him to the vet and he was treated for and found to have roundworms. His energy is increasing but we have to feed him with a syringe as he will not eat on his own. How do I get him to resume eating on his own?

I would continue to feed him with the syringe for a little while. Check with your vet but you may want to mix a little "baby chicken in a jar" that babies eat. Mix a little in some of his puppy chow(soften the food with water) and serve small amounts and serve it just slightly warm.
Keep track of how much you give him and how much he eats.Weigh him at your vets to see if he is gaining an ounce or two, in a week or two. Remember he is very small so feed small amounts and do it as number of times during the day. After he is eating the "mixed" food often... then you can cut back on how much you give him of the chicken but do it very gradually. Good luck.

I tried this and it worked like magic! Thank you so much. She hasn't eaten on her own on 5 days but she ate this right away.

That is great news... so as long as her weight is good.. she is getting enough... I would continue this way and very gradually cut back on the chicken... you can substitute a little chicken broth to moisten her food. I used to freeze the chicken broth(homemade or from the can) in little ice cube trays... then pop one out every day ,melt it and then added it to the food.. that way I always had it handy.
Good luck... so glad it worked.:)

My 9 y/o Dalmatian has recently stopped eating her food. She drinks a lot of water. She has been eating cat droppings from a litter box and I recently gave her a dewormer. Could she have an upset stomach from the cat's poop and litter or is there something more wrong?
