Hooking up a dvd recorder through a receiver to the TV
I have a Sanyo DRW-500 dvd recorder that I am trying to put through my Yamaha HTR-5450 receiver. This I want to use to record things off my TV. I also have a Yamaha DV-C6280 that I use to watch dvd's. This is all going to a Sanyo LCD HDTV. I think I have things hooked up OK. I haven't tried to record anything on TV yet. I have the cable going into the dvd recorder and then to the TV. When I just have the TV on, the picture isn't have good. But when I turn the recorder on, the picture gets better. I don't want to have the recorder on all the time. It shows the picture but not very clear. It is a big screen TV and it has its own stand. Below is the speakers, below that is the tuner and the dvd player. Below that is the recorder. Any ideas.

    Thanks

Just a quick thought about the picture quality. Press the button on your remote that switches back and forth from the TV to the recorder... the old remotes would say
TV/VCR... in that you could record and watch another channel while doing so.
If the remote is left on the recorder mode, you switching channels on the TV, the picture of course, is lousy.
Push the button, it takes the TV off the recorder and the picture resumes normal quality.
The recorder is still taping the other channel while you watch the TV channel.

This is probably too simple an answer... you would have undoubtedly tried this.
Hooking up a digital recorder is a bit different than a VCR... so get someone who has already hooked up such system.

You might go into the website of the manufacturer of the recorder and ask questions there.

One solution is a splitter and/or A/B switch. W/ the switch you can choose whether the pic goes through the recorder first or not.
