I'm 7 weeks
I was just wondering, I heard its OK and then its not OK to eat feta, lunch meat on sandwhiches, hotdogs, and a few other things. I'm getting nervous what to eat now cause every time I turn around I heard a yes and no and I get confused. I'm going to the doc this Friday for my 8 weeks but I thought id ask people now before I go. So what is the right answer? If I can't eat feta I just did for the past 4 days now. And lunch meat I ate yesturday. Now I'm scared.

Hello!
I am 17 weeks pregnant and I have been like you a little as this is my first baby. I am going by what my midwife told me and what is stated in my pregnancy book. Midwife and book states to try and avoid liver, pate, peanuts, soft cheese and sea food. Meat must be thoroughly cooked also. Don't be scared darling, you will be fine. Good luck in your pregnancy

During my pregnancy my doc told me to avoid pate, soft cheeses, hot dogs, lunch meat, and I could have sea food, but in moderation. Hopefully Doula or J9 will be around, they know a lot more about this than I do.

Try not to worry... it was minimal amounts. The concern with any food is whether it is pasturized. Also, with hotdogs and lunch meats there is the concern of sodium nitrates (you can find some that are without). The risk with both is due to listeria... normally not a big concern for most people, but pregnancy increases the possibility of contracting it... which can be quite serious for baby especially. Plenty of women eat lunch meat and hotdogs during pregnancy with no problems but, as with other things we know could be concerns, best to avoid as much as possible to be on the safe side.
