How do you record HDTV using a VCR?
I just purchased a Sony Bravia HDTV KDL-26M4000. I hooked my Panasonic PV-8451 VCR up successfully to my TV. Tape playback was fine. I did notice that my TV's video from basic cable, became somewhat degraded. Also my analog stations went in and out. When I recorded a program, the video appeared very odd. I think that the reason for this is because, I was sending my cable signal through my Analog VCR. I was talked into getting the splitter by a store salesman. I planned on sending my original cable signal through my splitter, and have the VCR In coaxial also in the splitter. Unfortunately the splitter has no female connectors, to connect to the TV. I believe I am over my head. I am not very technolly oriented, and do not know if this approach, is even possible. Is it even posible to to record HDTV on a VCR, or will I need to purchase a DVR. I am thinking that if it can be done I, would need asplitter wt two males, a female, and two coxials, plus the one going into the wall. Can this be accomplished, w/o a DVR?

    Thank you,
    James

The gov that's forcing HD on us sez that if you have cable, you don't have to worry - the cable co will take care of the conversion. On that basis, I'd think that a VCR should be able to receive the signal OK since all it is is a TV with a tape head instead of a pic tube. (At least I'm hoping so since I have 3 VCRs <G>)

As for your connections, go to Radio Shack (or similar) and get an adapter that changes male to female or vice versa.
