    Probation release
Hello, I am on probation now and only have three months left... never had any problems... never was even drug tested! The probation office gave me a piece of paper and told me to make a bunch of copies and send them in every month.. haventn seen the PO or talked to him in months. I have paid all my fines. The problem is... I have a job overseas... got a passport... two countries gave me visas to work. I was going to go ahead over there and just send the last three in every month and not say anything. My brother who is a lawyer said they will never know and that nothing in your papers says you can't leave the county. But he is not a criminal lawer. My question is.. what is the release of probation procedure.. do they send you a letter or call you in or like I am doing now... just don't send another one after three months. I got off probation for the misdemeanor in April and didn't hear a word!

    Thanks!

Well if they do discover you left, they can violate your probation and you would have a warrant waiting on you when you fly home..
Heck it gets you though airport security fast.
You should get permission or you should not go. That is what being on probation is all about.

Just because your relative is an attorney he is incorrect with "they'll never know" you left the country. Possibly they will know when you return. If your probation date has come and gone and you did not receive any paperwork saying you are released, call up your probation officer and ask him if you will receive some sort of paperwork. In some states they do not send paperwork at the end of your probation, but it is noted in the computer somewhere that you are not on probation any longer. In other states you get a formal paper signed by the judge saying your probation has ended successfully. Either way with one phone call you'll solve your problem.
