    Salary Negotiation
    Hi everyone,

I just recently applied for a position as a food service director. This position includes management of 5 kitchens in various schools. These schools are located in Worthington, MN and surrounding towns. I am very excited because I just got the job offer! There are a couple concerns:
    1. I currently live in SD and would have to relocate to Worthington. They offered me a $1000 bonus to help with expenses, but I am unsure if this is sufficient.

    2. They offered me a salary of $30,000 (currently I am making $2,000 less in a different field). Looking at the salary for this position on CBsalary.com, it shows the range as $36,000 to $82,000. Even though I have no management experience, I have a 4 year degree and 1 year internship for Dietetics(Science of Nutrition). Needless to say this job offers me a great opportunity to have a career in my field but I feel the offer is a little low.

My main questions is whether I should negotiate the relocation incentive, the salary or both? If so, how do I go about this charismatically? I really want this position, but feel I should get more because I am leaving everything behind in SD. Any help is appreciated...

You are free to ask, and they of course can be free to withdraw the offer until it is accepted. A few questions, did they pay for your job interview costs of travel. But a lot of firms are not offering relocation at all, others will pay full. Depends on how much you have to move, if you have you , your car and what fits in the back seat, 1000 is about right, beyond that get a estimate of what you think moving is.

Thanks for the feedback. To answer your question, we met in a central location (about 45 minutes from my home town). They did not pay for my travel costs. Unfortuntly I have a lot more than can fit in my car. I have a two bedroom house and dog. Any idea on how I should go about the negotiation?
