Correctly venting a natural gas clothes dryer
What is the correct way to vent a natural gas clothes dryer? I just bought a used natural gas clothers dryer. What is the correct way to vent this dryer? The booklet says to use the rigid pipe and not to use the expandalbe foil vents. After the dryer has been on for a couple of minutes, I start to smell the oder of wet clothes. The plumbers used the expandable foil vent from the back of the dryer to under the house and then they used the ridid pipe to the outside. It this correct. I don't think it is because after a few minutes, I can feel the heat from the dryer in my kitchen, Please advise.:)

    Hello Linda!

I am not an expert on gas dryers, but to me it all sounds unsafe, and if I had a similar dryer I would insist on a fixed metal pipe from the dryer to outside all the way.

This seems to me to be an unsafe venting system.
Expandable foil venting seems more appropriate for electric dryers, as their exhaust is just hot air.
Gas dryer exhaust fumes contain burned gas : a lot of CO2, and other dangerous gases.
That you start smelling something within minutes indicates that there somewhere is an exhaust leak already now.

Good for you to query this installation. It may have saved your life!

    :)
