    Making a file writeprotected
    Hi to everyone can anybody tell me how to make my file write protected?
    It only do the execution when I double click & it must not be have the permissions delete,write & read:confused:

    This is easy to do, but it's also easy to undo.

    1. Find your file on your computer and right-click on it.
    2. Select Properties
    3. Put a check mark in the READ ONLY box
    4. Click OK.


    Any savvy person will know how to undo that, though.

    On the other hand, what type of document are you trying to lock against editing? If it's a Word or Excel doc, you can lock those files with a password within the program so even after the doc is open it can't be edited.

    In Word, it's found on the TOOLS > PROTECT DOCUMENT menu. I'd believe similar controls would be found in any quality document creation software.

    If your document is in a format that doesn't have this feature, consider dropping the text into Word or Excel doc instead and locking them, publishing them in that form instead.

    ALTERNATE METHOD
    Instead of locking the document in a way someone else could undo, send your documents out to others in PDF format.

    I use a printer driver called PrimoPDF which give me PDF capability in any program at all. Even web pages... anything I can bring up the PRINT menu as if I wanted to print the doc/page, I then select the PrimoPDF printer driver and it prints to the hard drive as a PDF.

    Sweet. Moreover, this utility gives you the ability to decide just what peope can and can't do when they do open the PDF doc, there is a phenomenal level of security. You can even password protect the doc so it can't even be VIEWED without the right password.

    PDF stands for Portable Document Format and it is exactly that. The last benefit of PDF is there are PDF viewers for every operating system out there, so ANYONE can read a PDF on any computer.

    THis is the method I use to preserve the security of the documents I send out to my prospects and clients, and I only post PDF docs on our company website.

    What type of file and what are you trying to potect against? As JB pointed it, its easy to make a file read only and its just as easy to change it back.

    Some programs allow password protection of their files. Depending on where the file is, folders or files might be secured.

    So you really need to give us more info to help.
