It is easy just remove the handle, pull the U pin and pull out the cartridge. If you phone Moen 800-465-6130 they will send you a cartridge for free. Also on the MOEN Kitchen Faucets, Bathroom Faucets and Bathroom Showers website there is an animated tutorial showing how to remove the cartridge.

    Hi all:

Hey Dreamer7, as suggested... not a real hard job, but wanted to pop in and make sure you understood a few things... ok?

    1) No washers to change here... just a cartridge assembly (see pic. #1)

    2) Need to shut the cold water to the house OR need to shut hot and cold water to the shower valve before beginning.

    3) Follow the links above... Afaroo's get you there fastest!

    4) Remove handle, remove retainer clip and then will need to pull/yank (hold valve against yourself) on the cartridge assembly to remove it. If have great difficulty removing the cartridge (you shouldn't, but just in case... ;)) then moen sells a MOEN CARTRIDGE PULLER (see pic.#2) at local home supply store... but hopefully don't need it.

    5) Order a replacement cartridge before beginning the job or pick up a moen replacement cartridge #1225 at local home supply store.

    5) As already stated by these guys... Moen will ship you a free cartridge assembly (including shipping), but it can take up to 10 days so don't go disassembling the unit until the part arrives. You just need to tell them that your cartridge needs to be replaced due to dripping and they should send new cartridge right away.

    6) Moen has express delivery of part ($12.00) that gets that cartridge to you in 2 days... just so you know.

Finally, not a bad idea to pick up a little silicone grease from a home supply store (or ask Moen people to send you small container) to lubricate the oring prior to installing the new cartridge. Don't get any on the cartridge parts... just on the O ring and cartridge will slide in easy!

Then replace retainer clip, trim and handle. Then test water... if hot and cold are reversed simply remove cartridge again and rotate it 180 degrees... that will fix that!

Let us know if have any more questions...

You don't. Buy new cartridge. Takes $12.00, 10 minutes of your time and you will be set for next 5 years...

I've read most of the questions on this website about this matter, but I'm still confused. I pulled off the handle and wall plate. But what do I do after that? I see a small (4 inch approx.) hole in the wall with a "unit" that looks like a cartridge that holds the handle. I can turn it to hot...

Moen Single Handle Shower Diverter Leak [ 1 Answers ]

I have a Moen single handle valve in my bathtub. The tub spout has a diverter on the top to change it to shower mode.
