    Does anyone know how long a title insurance policy is good for?
    If someone discovers many years later after he or she buys a house that there is defect in title, can he or she file a claim with the title company?. If not, is there other recourse?.

    There's no expiration date. File the claim.

    What is the "defect" and what needs to be done to clear the title.
