Extending 200 amp service to another 200 amp panel
    Hello Everyone,

As I just found this site this is my first time posting.

I am in the process of doing an addition to my home and I am having the electrical service moved as the addition is on an exterior wall. I installed a new 200 amp panel and I need to extend the electrical over to my existing 200 amp panel. I was sold a snap in sub panel lugs which will accommodate 4/0 AL SER and I will treat the old panel as a sub (separating grounds and neutrals, etc). Since the inspector is coming on Monday to inspect for the service, I would like to pass this by him to avoid a headache later on. Any feedback on this as the inspectors around here are for everything (framing, plumbing, etc) and he likes to see things in black and white from the code. I guess what I am asking is can my "service disconnect" at my new panel act as my "overcurrent protection" device feeding the lugs that eventually feed the existing 200 amp sub-panel

I don't quite understand the question, but the sub-panel needs a breaker feed from the main panel. Unfortunately, you probably will not be able to find a 200 amp breaker for a feed. You'll likely only be able to find a 100 A breaker.

There are restrinctions as to the distance from the meter to the main panel. If it's nor that a particular amount (could be <10 feet, not sure), you need an outside disconnect.
Also, local codes may require an outside disconnect in all cases.

What you could have done is got a service entrance with a meter base with 2 disconnects in it. One for each panel at, say 100 A each.
