You have to do a little research here.
To check what is going on in your machine :

Remove the rear panel, and have a look as to what is going on.
Check the drive belt : is it frayed?
Is anything touching the belt or the drum (wheel) ?
Does anything look lose or broken?
Open up the water filter at the bottom and inspect if there is something there.
As the problem seems clearly related to the recent flooding, may be something or mud got into the machine, and specially with spinning that causes a problem.
17"= 432 mm : roughly the height of the drum bearing : so dirty water may have entered there. Careful : a bearing that is "gone" means a new washer...
Another possibility is the motor : that was flooded for sure. Older models often have a motor that actually consists of two different motors into one, and the spin sector may have been damaged.
With electronic speed controllers that may be arranged in an electronic board high in the machine, so that one most probably is still OK.

There are so many possibilities that you have to check first what is making the strange sound !
Please be careful : do not touch anything while the washer is connected to the power.
If you can not find anything while the machine is running the normal way, remove the power - take the power cable out of the socket and put it on to the ground.

Remove the belt (rather physical job, but not difficult too do).
Spin the (empty) drum a couple of times by hand, as fast as possible. Is it running freely?
Spin the motor a couple of times by hand, as fast as possible. Is it running freely?

This procedure will allow you to research what is the problem in your machine.
Of course you can also come back to the board and discuss your findings for future advice !

    Success !

    :)

Washing Machine Noise During Spin Cycle [ 3 Answers ]

Hello, I own a Maytage Neptune MAH4000 washing machine. Lately, the spin cycle has been getting more noisy until now when it sounds like an airplane ready to taxi down the runway. I opened the back of the washer to observe and noticed a lot of vibration and large sway of the tub during spin. ...

Whirlpool Gold gsq9364hqo doesn't always spin on the spin cycle. [ 2 Answers ]

Whirlpool Gold gsq9364hqo doesn't always spin on the spin cycle. The motor runs but the basket doesn't spin. If I lift the lid the motor stops, then something (clutch or pawl?) catches and if I put the lid back down than it starts spinning correctly every time. Any ideas?
