    Taxes Status and Changes
    Hi,
My name is Mounir and I had been in the US for 3 years. I have used my right to claim the US-France tax treaty benefit and I have been subject to tax withholding since July 15th 2005.
I had been under a J-1 Visa since then till Jan 15th 2006 when my status changed to H-1.
My wife is under a J-1 Visa currently and is subjected to tax withholding since march 1st 2005.
So I am a little confused  and don't know what kind of filing I must do.
    1- I have received a W2 only while my wife has received a W2 and a 1042-S
2- Should we file jointly (married since Nov. 8th, 2004) or separately, we have no kids

Thank you for helping. I have never filed taxes before and the right info is hard to get.

You each have to file your own Form 1040NR. Filing jointly is not an option.
