    In town
I live about 15 minutes outside of town. I do like to take Rex(my dog) for walks in town every once in a while and he usually acts pretty good but with all the noises he gets distrated really easily. Does anyone have any tips on how I can keep his attention on me at all times?

Don't ask the impossible. Remember when you were a kid, and went somewhere new? Did you keep your attention on mom and dad every single second? Of course not. If you can recover the dog's attention ( by calling his name, talking to him, touching him, etc.) when you need to, then be happy and let him enjoy the sights and sounds.

This is very true. I guess I just never thought about it that way. Thanks for your advice:cool:

Hey Rex, try this little trick, every time you give your dog a treat, hold it between the eyes and say 'look!' then give it to him, consistency with this will get him to pay attention to you..

It's fun sometimes when the dog is "distracted" to see if you can figure out what's distracting them. You can see things that you would otherwise miss that way. That's how I found out that my last neighborhood had a herd of deer living in it.

Oh, I don't know about your dog but my dog loves to run, so when I'm walking or biking and I know there is a distraction ahead, I speed up! And give him lots of praise. I'm starting to realize the key to getting attention is to make yourself, more fun then what ever is getting his attention!

I taught my dog to find squirrels. We'll be in the woods(with him leashed of course) and I'll say rex where are all the squirrels his head snaps up and his ears start twitching and he'll smell around until he finds one. When he does see one he starts to bark. Its funny because he responds better to the word squirrel than to his own name.
