    Need to know.
If our puppy has distemper, will it harm him to continue with the future vaccine?
He was never given that diagnosis but all the symptoms match.
Right now he is on potassium bromide for his seizures. His neurologic
Reflexes are deminished (he's very clumbsy).
Anyway, it is time for another set of vaccines. Since we chose not
To put him though a spinal tap and we don't know the true diagnosis
For the seizures, I just need to know if he get a distemper vaccine
And he has distemper will it kill him?

Thank you for your time. Kmv

Is there some reason your vet cannot answer this?

Try posting on the Pets board. It's under Home & Garden.

Did the pup ever have a respiratory infection? That usually precedes any neurologic signs by several weeks. Its proabably been twenty years since I have seen a dog with post-distemper encephalitis--most of them have pronounced and continual jerking motions with their feet and jaws. (These were sometimes called "chewing gum fits")
Since the disease is so rare now, and there are so many other possible causes of neurologic problems, I would vaccinate.
I would be more concerned about hydrocephalus, liver shunts, or something similar at this age. Has the puppy had blood run for distemper antibody titers?
