Child 17 yrs of age in Florida
What is a parents legal rights to a teenager wanting to stay in FLA while I move back to my home state?

My teenage daughter wants to live on her own but does not want to emancipate herself due to the fact she will lose her fathers health insurance coverage. I am leaving to move back home next week and she thinks I will leave her here to take care of herself.

Can I be held liable for "abandonment"? If so, what is my recourse in getting her to go back with me.

    HELP!

Until she is 18 she is your responsiblilty. You can be held responsible for anything she does. And yes, you might be prosecuted for abandonment.

On the other hand a 17 yr old probably has one more year of HS left. I suspect she wants to stay to finish school with her friends. This is not an unreasonable request. Is there some relative or the parents of a friend who will put her up for her final year?
