I used turbo tax and they had me mail in a 1040X amended form.After 4 months with no return I called the IRS and they said they had my amended return and were waiting to receive my original return before they could do anything.The IRS guy had no idea what I should do.That 1040X was my original return.I have spent hours on the turbo tax site and it is an exercise in futility.Any ideas?

How can 1040X be your original tax return? It is amended tax return, which you file only when you want changes in your original tax return.

It appears that you never filed your tax return. File your tax return. May be it is a better idea to get professional help instead of doing yourself. Once your basics about tax return are clear, you can file on your own.

It absolutely was my original return without a doubt.For some reason turbo tax made it in to a 1040X.This was the first forms sent in and was the original forms received by the IRS.NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.I don't know how or why.I have used turbo tax for years with stellar results.I'm sure tax pros despise it.I got it straightened out by the way through turbo tax.It was easy and fast and the guy was very polite and knowledgeable.Thank you very very much for your replies.

Form 1040EZ or 1040A or 1040 are tax return forms for a resident.
Form 1040EX is Amended tax return form. Even if you filed this without filing Form 1040EZ/1040A/1040, this will still be called amended tax return.
