    Toning calves
Just wanted to know how to tone up the calves, I don't have a fat upper body but for some unknown reasons, my calves are huge and appears to be bigger than my body. They look unbalanced. Please help, desperately need your advise. Thank you

Walking, jogging, running, bike riding, squats, treadmill, elliptical...

All of those will tone your calves.

*edited - I wrote this assuming you were a man but could be wrong... the same "rules" apply if you are a woman in terms of exercise, but commonly men want more muscle definition and women often want a more streamlined look. So it might help to know your gender as well as answers to other questions I asked*

Calves are comprised of both fast and slow twitch muscle fibers and should be worked accordingly... meaning to define them you do some low rep, heavy weight work... and then you can do some high rep, low weight work. Standing calf raises are common... donkey calf raises are easier with a machine, though can be done with someone helping you. Pointing your toes inward, straight, or out on any raises can hit the different muscle heads better.

You state you don't have a lot of upper body fat... with your calves do you feel like there's fat or that you just don't have the definition you want or that the muscle looks too big for your body? What about your salt and water intake?

Honest truth is the calves are commonly one of the harder areas for some to tone.

One thing you can do if your concern is your calves are unbalanced with your legs is you can work your quads more to achieve more leg symmetry.

Much of the time, people just need to come to terms with their calves as much of the shape is just your predisposition.

I've found that the best way to have sexy calves is to wear high heels.. lol.. . its painless and a "natural" part of the day...

Not being able to tell from your screenname if you're a lady... this may not be applicable... but if you're a lady... bring out the stilettos! :)

So as not to be flagged for "not answering the question"...

Stand on the first step of a staircase with a handrail. Put just your toes and the ball of your foot on the step so that your heels are hanging off the edge of the step (kind of like on a diving board). Push your weight onto the balls of your feet - basically, stand on your tiptoes - and then back down to "flat footed." Do these reps over and over. This will strengthen your calves. Its also a cheap exercise! Everyone can find a step! :)

50-100 reps. Standing on stairs, books, blocks, start with your heels down as far as possible in a good stretch, keep your knees straight and not locked, rise on balls of feet and squeeze moving only ankles
