    Hello john:

If you reported it, it's up to the cops to do something about it, not you.

Depending on the exact crime, often 5 years could be over the SOL, each state in the US has their own rules on the time frame, And the amount taken, how it was taken all makes a difference.

In general if they have not already charged someone in 5 years most likely it will never happen. Was there a known suspect, my "guess" the majority of thefts are never convicted.

    Hello again, john:

Yeah, I'm not surprised the cops couldn't figure it out. They were probably down at the doughnut shoppe. You can't do an investigation from there.

Like I said, the cops are bound by the statute of limitations. They had a certain amount of time, beginning when the crime was reported, to actually find the culprit... But, they didn't. It apparently wasn't too hard either... Oh well, too bad for you. Don't surprise me none, though. I'm sure the statute of limitations expired.

I'd certainly write a letter to the chief of police and ask him why HE couldn't solve this crime?
