Lied to About The Real Reason I was Fired
So, I was employed at a Optometrist's Office for three weeks. They SAID the reason they let me go was because there was a lack of hours and patient flow, and couldn't afford my employment anymore. Well, the person that I replaced worked there for ten years, his Mom is the office manager, and his wife does the pre-testing. I suspected he wanted his old job back, and they fired me to give it back to him. Well, I called with *67 today, and he answered. This proved my theory. So they lied to me about the reason I got fired. The doctor even said he would give me a good reference, and he gave me two days of extra pay.

Is this illegal or just rude? I know, it's during the "probationary period" so I figured it was nothing illegal... just messed up.

Nothing illegal has been committed here.

Most states are right to work states, meaning you can quit anytime you want, and the employer can dismiss you anytime they want, without any ligitimate reason what so ever.

Especially as you mentioned, you were still in the "probationary" period.

Legaly I don't think you can do anything since it was in the "probationary period", however I am not 100% sure but I feel really bad about what happened to you and it's wrong. That's one bad thing about working for family owned establishments, you have your "favorites". I'm so sorry your going through this bless you I wish you the best of luck. They say everything happens for a reason so maybe you just might end up with an even better job. :)

Most states are even right to work, so if it was out of a probatoin, they could file you just to hire him if they wanted to.

What they are doing is making you a good work history record, reference.
Get that reference in writing, so you can submit it latter and make copies.

But they are being nice and trying to help you in your look for new work.
