    Checking a run capacitor with vom
    I have a run capacitor 60 + 5 uf 370 v can you tell me how to check capacitor with vom

    You can check if it's bad, but not if it's good.

    What does that mean. If it shows shorted using resistance, it's bad. If it's not shorted, it could be good or bad. You need a capacitance meter and unfortunately, cheap ones don't show the parameter ESR.

    Check from the common terminal to each capacitor.

    There is a way,, long time ago I was taught how to do it with an analog vom,, but, sorry I have forgotten

    That method was to connect the analog VOM in one direction and then the other and watch for a blip in the needle using a low ohms range. Again, results are inconclusive. The blip means it's PROBABLY Ok.
