My new countertop has rounded corners and I need to apply the laminate on the edge. I'm assuming I need to heat the laminate somehow in order to bend it around the corner...

Is the edge rounded over or is the shape of the counter a curve?

The edge is not rounded over, the shape of the counter is a curve. In the meantime, I have found a site that suggested purchasing a heat gun to heat the formica laminate. Would a blow dryer not get hot enough? Is suppose I could rent a heat gun from a tool rental place...

Hey Joe, I never had much of a problem doing this without heat if the curve is no tighter than the size of a baseball. Contact cement on both the underside of the laminate and the countertop, wait 10 minutes wrap and roll it, stuck forever.

Hey joe I agree with ballenger as usual the only difference in what he uses and what I use might be that I use a spray adhesive from a local supplier called web grip it holds like crazy . I have also used another spray called 3m 90 which works okay as well. Contact cement will work just fine just be sure you wait the 10 minutes or so like ballenger suggested. If the curve is a little tricky or stubborn I use a few strips of tape to hold in place after rolling until it cures enough to stay on its own. GOOD LUCK, AC

Thanks AC & Ballenger - I appreciate the tips. The curve is not tighter than a baseball, so I'm really pleased that it should go well without the heat. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey, just in case I might need the heat, would either of you recommend the blow dryer?

I would not use the heat. It can mess up your laminate if applied too much and it is not good for the set up of contact cement.

I wouldn't use any heat either a blow dryer would probably just get hot enough to adversly effect the contact cement and a heat gun could get too hot for the laminate.
