    What is theft one and what sort of penalty does it carry for a first offense

    Hello red:

    It's not as simple as that. Every state classifies their crimes differently. Whereas theft 1 or in the first degree might be the lowest form of theft in one state and the highest form in another state.

    The penalty doesn't depend on the crime either, it depends on you.
