Can my Room mate's boyfriend live in our shared apartment without paying?
I currently live in a two bedroom apartment in Ontario with my boyfriend (who pays rent and is on the lease) and my previous room mate of last year (who pays rent and is on the lease). However, my previous room mate has a boyfriend who has consistently been in our apartment (approx. 6 days a week he is here). Yes I agree that we all have the right to be with the person we love, but he is here using cable (which he pays for), the internet (that he doesn't pay for), and the whole square footage of our apartment (which he doesn't pay for), minus my room. Our rent includes utilities as well, which he uses. My room mate argues that she pays for her rent so therefore she is allowed to have him here when ever she likes, which includes the time that I am at work and she is at work, so he is basically hanging around our home when no one is here. She argues that I'm being greedy and I'm after money. I argue that he has been here consistently since January 1st 2008 and it is now May 21st 2008, he begins work June 2nd 2008, but that won't stop him from being here after work and during the weekend. She also argued that he doesn't have enough money to travel between his home that is half an hour away from our home and also that he requires a place to stay to make it to his new job that starts in June. In January we discussed that he doesn't have to pay rent if he wouldn't be here a majority of the time but that obviously never happened. Neither of them follow through with what they agree to. I argue that each individual has to pay for square footage used and utilities used. I just want a reprieve from him being around, or I want to be compensated for the amount I and my boyfriend pay for him being at our home constantly. I want to know where I can draw the line? What can I do? Are there any legalities that I don't know about?
