    Hair loss
I have a 10 week old daschund (isabella and tan). Down along his back he seems to not have much hair growth. Is this a serious problem or can this be resolved

Have your vet take a look at him. It could be several different things. I know that in Dobermans, the dilute colors have more skin and haircoat problems. Of course this is puppy coat, and may shed out into a normal adult coat. Anyway, have it checked so you know whether it is something serious.

I also have a doxie he is 1 and a half yrs. Black/tan 12 lbs. happy, healthy, playful but balding! Took him to 2 vets for help and second vet brought out the doggie medical answer book and it said that he is suffering from pattern baldness. It's more common in female doxies but not limited to. Its similar to male pattern baldness in men, so its not hazardous to their health, just have to watch for sunburn. My Doxie is balding on his belly, temples, back of thighs, behind ears and chest. We feed him Solid Gold for small breed, wash him with baby puppy shampoo and it all makes no difference. Anyway I hope that helps. I have never met his parents, but the vet said they are likely to be balding in the same places

I know fleas can cause patchy hair loss, and also food allergies. My pitbull was losing hair in big patches all over, and I originally thought it was hot spots, but after going to the vet she told me that it looked more like a food allergy and to try a different food protein such as venison, or duck, since those aren't so common, and usually only used in hypoallergenic food. I would try mixing some hypoallergenic food in with his normal food, and then switching all together for a month and see if that helps. I use Natural Balance Duck and Potato. The vet told me when switching the diet you need to switch it completely, that means buying the same formula treats, and only allowing him to eat Duck and Potato treats, and Duck and Potato food. Just a thought...
