Installed a ceiling fan and it doesn't have a pull switch for turning light kit on and off. I have a wall switch when you turn it on the fan and the lights come on. I drilled a hole in the kit and mounted a two wire pull switch. Inside the light kit I have a black wire and blue wire tied together and two white wires tied together and a piece of tape around all these wires marked light switch. The switch I mounted has two black wires. Do I leave the white wires hooked together and attach one black wire from switch to black wire from kit. And then attach the other black wire from switch to blue wire in kit??

That sounds correct. Generally, the blue wire is for the light kit.
You can test this by removing the blue wire from the black wire and cap them both with wire nuts (to prevent a short). Turn on the power and the lights should stay off. If the lights DO come on with the black and blue wires connected, you know the blue wire is for the lights. Just hook a switch wire to each of the fan black and fan blue wires and you should be in good shape.

Have you considered installing a remote since you don't have enough wire between the switch and the fan to control the light and fan separately?
