How old is my Montgomery Ward electric sewing machine?
Hi... This is my first post. :) I found this website while searching the internet to find out how old my sewing machine is (mostly to convince my husband that I need a new one) but also because I'm curious... I inherited this machine from my grandmother back when I was in high school.

It is a Montgomery Ward, made in Japan (so I know it was made at least after 1950).
    Model # is UHT J1930
    Serial # is 97 12662

I can find information on just about every OTHER model # out there, but not mine!! Thanks to all for any help.

They should be able to provide you the date.

But just tell him that we all said to just buy you one. If you want one, it should not matter how old the other one is, esp if it is that old to start with it is over 40 years I am sure, if it was over 20 years you should be getting one. If you sew a lot, you should get two, a lock stitch and a overlock machine

Thank you Fr_chuck! I'm going to go check out that website right now! (And, for the record, I have wanted an overlock machine for FOREVER. I'm trying to remind myself that good things come to those who wait... but the problem with THAT is it was never specified how long one must wait!! )

    Thanks again.

And good things come to those who make their husbands sleep on the couch a night or two < LOL

I love the singer overlock but wilcox made some of the better commercial models. Often you can find old commercial ones, that have been converted to a 110 motor ( if you have the room)
