    Can I sue for slander
I have been divorced for 6yrs and remarried with my second child on the way. My ex in laws keep telling these NASTY lies like I have been molested to people all over town. After I divorced their son they started all of these sick lies about me to try to hurt me. My daughter has to hear this sick stuff at school and now I am tired of it. These people have no college background and unhappy with themselves they get trough life hurting other people at their expense. I never met people this sick and crazy in my life. When I left I never thought twice about these people and for some reason they can not accept that I have moved on to a better and happier life. I have wittnesses who say they said these lies to them. If I can sue What happens if they can not pay for the damages they have caused for the past 6yrs?

You must be able to prove liability and damages; liability means your witness(es) heard the statements; damages are determined by a fair and impartial jury, which means any where from $1 to whatever cap your state may have on punitive damages. If they cannot pay, then you are just out of luck, and will have to pay your attorney without hope of compensation. You may do better having your attorney write them a threatening letter, or move to the next town, because some just aren't large enough.

George, you are right about all of the above. Names hurt just as much as sticks and stones to some people. You know the truth of the matter and so should your friends. Ignore them and their spiteful ways. What comes around goes around. They'll get theirs and you can sit back and have the last laugh if you're patient.

I just read back through this - do they blame you for the problems with their Grandchild? Perhaps it's easier to find blame in you than in their son and so they're taking it out on you.

And you can always consult with an Attorney. I just don't think it's going to be worth the time and money... unfortunately.
