My 3 year old and his daycare center
My 3 year old son is registered at a military daycare. My husband deploys quite a bit, and since my son turned 3, he has issues at school. Such as walking away from the teachers, tantrums, and not using his listening ears. I've been summoned to the daycare to sign a behavior contract, and I am against this. He is in a room with 3, 4, and 5 year old children. My son is quite bright for his age, and they seem to think that because he is bright, he should be more mature. My son is not hurting anyone, or spitting, just sort of bored with what is being done in the class. I work at a school, so I work closely with my son at home. My husband is away at this moment. What advice can anyone give me on this situation?

Responses to internal and external stimuli can be learned at an early age and daycare to a certain extent should prepare your son in many ways for kindergarten. This is learning his boundaries in an environment where he has to pay attention and recognize that there are people besides his mom who he has to obey, or learning restraint.

I don't know what the behavior contract will accomplish. I have never heard of that before and you could explain what this will do. They should know that 3 year old children are still at a stage where direction is hard for them to accomplish. They are the experts.

Some children, although 3, do not blossom in a daycare environment because of their maturity level and possibly not having peers at home. I would say, take him out of daycare until he matures a little more and he can deal with restrictions, or you must impose more structure for him at home. :)
