Gas Dryer won't dry in auto mode
I have an Amana Gas Dryer (PLG8409W2) which will not stay hot.
In the Auto Dry mode the following ocurrs:
The igniter will glow and the gas will flow and ignite.
After a while (depending on the load) the flame will go out, it might then glow and ignite the gas flow again.
At some point the igniter will glow but the gas will not flow (and there is always a rattling) and the igniter shuts off.
The igniter will ignite the gas flow again if I stop the dryer, wait awhile and turn it back on.
I have already checked the following:
    - cleaned the dryer vent, hose and vent chamber (in dryer base).
    - vaccumed and cleaned everything I could see in the base (disassembled the whole air flow and cleaned)
    - pulled out and cleaned the thermostat in the blower chamber.
    - Have disconnected the dryer hose to eliminate blockage possibilities.

The gas seems to cycle on and off as required in the Timed Dry mode, but it still seems to take a while to dry the clothes.

From what I've been able to read I'm guessing it's the igniter thermostat, the vent thermostat or the gas coils.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jim

I don't think so. The gas should not shut off in timed mode, that's why it's taking too long to dry the clothes.

In the burner assembly there is something that looks like a cobra's head, that deflects part of the flame into the sensor that holds the gas valve open. Over time that portion weakens and mucks up he diversion. I'lll bet if you try to bend it it may feel weak and you may be able to get the dryer to work at least for a short time.

It's a very frustrating problem unless you have seen it before.

The igniter works. The burner ignites. It's just not staying lit. It's in the intermittant stage now and the time the burner stays on will progressivy get less.

You did good describing the problem.
