Hi,
I have a Pegasus bathtub spout with a stuck shower diverter. I contacted customer support and was sent a replacement spout that does not fit. Currently I have a 3/4 inch copper pipe coming out of the wall approx 2 inches. I sent pictures of my application to Pegasus (the one on the left is the one I have currently and here is their reply:

"Your model has been discontinued. The new model does not have the copper pipe any more.
You need to get a 4" inch steel pipe available at any plumber shops or renovation stores to replace the copper pipe that you have.
The White insert can be removed undo the set screw on the side and pull the plastic insert. Now you can screw the new spout on the 4" inch pipe.
The new spout are made for slip in fit or screw in fit."

Do I need to call out a plumber or is this something I can do myself?

Better call a plumber.

It appears from your picture that your 3/4" pipe is a sweat fitting inside the wall. This is not going to be easy for most home owners. Either call a plumber or conside another brand of spout that might look very similar, most all others will work.

This sounds like the copper pipe's threaded into a drop eared ell inside the wall if they wish you to replace with a steel pipe. Have you tried backing the copper pipe out counterclockwise? Let me know. Tom

I did not do any ratings at all yet. Waiting for all the suggestions to come in b/4 I can determine whether this is a job I can tackle myself. Thank you for you answer

If the copper pipe's threaded we can walk you through installing another spout. However it it's soldered something's got to be opened up to unsolder it. Regards, Tom

Ethan,your pic of the two spouts is spot on and directly from the business end of the fixture. The pic of the 3/4" pipe is off to the side so we can quite see into the hole in the wall. Just a few more inches straight on and Tom and I could see how that pipe is attached. Tom's think 90 degree drop ear elbow and he may be correct.

Thank you all for your responses so far. I am attaching another picture of the pipe fitting that comes out of the wall.

I tried to turn the copper fitting counterclock wise but didn't budge and I don't want to force it.

I have been online all morning trying to find another spout rather than have a plumber replace the pipe, but all seem to be 1/2 in. fittings and that won't work. Would still have to replace the pipe.

I think the brass pipe closest to the camera is screwed into a copper female connector, based by the looks of this pic and that's funny since the first pic I would be $10 the connection was sweat. Here is a problem the way I see it and hope Tom will be back to add info. If you remove the brass from the copper you can't just install a galvanized stub, you'll get galvanic reaction and there is no room for a dielectric fitting. Makes my idea of finding another brand spout start to look good, eh?
