Can a simple speeding ticket violate my probation?

Yes, it can, will it, most likely not. What was your probation on or for.

But be sure and report it to the PO, if you don't and they find out, then you violated the big rule of not reporting it, which is serious to them normally

I agree that most likely it will not and you should be reporting it as soon as you can. It's not uncommon for people to get speeding tickets. Usually, when probationers commit some sort of traffic violation, the probation departments care a lot more about things that would be a serious traffic crime that are not common for people, such as Driving Under the Influence

If the reason that you are on probation had anything to do with a crime you committed where part of the crime was involving you speeding, then that also might be more likely to be a violation of your probation.

First pay the fine, get a receipt and take this to your probation officer showing that you got the ticket - be sure to make a xerox of the ticket as well and you report this to your probation officer at your next scheduled check in you should be okay. If you do not report this "contact with police" you will be in violation for not reporting the ticket. Remember they ask you if you have had any contact with any police agency - they do this on their monthly form you fill out and they ask you at the time of your monthly interview. If you do not have a monthly interview I would suggest that you send a copy of the ticket and the paid receipt to them immediately.

My boyfriend had the same problem. He is on probation for a felony. He violated his probation in Sept for forgetting to fill out a form.. and then got a speeding ticket in Mar.. His PO violated him because they said he's not taking his probation seriosuly.. his court date is June..

Most likely you won't be in trouble, it maily depends on how you have been overall on your probation. If they decide to violate you, you have to see a judge, and my boyfriends judge thought it was ridiculous that his PO's violated him for a traffic ticket (he still has court on June because his attorney asked for an extension to prove that my boyfriend is in good behavior but he still saw the judge and the judge laughed at the violation)
