    Ceiling fan lighting
Hello, I have a Harbor Breeze model eyd52rbz5lkrcs. It is a wide blade remote control only
Fan, installed outside under an aluminum roofed patio. My intent was to deter the hovering flies that love the warm still air by my back door. I am interested in removing the fish bowl light globe under the fan housing. The installion guide does not offer that option. My patio ceiling is too low for my comfort with the fan and light together. Also could I cut down the extension tube by as much as half(now at 8 inches) to achieve more clearance , without any balance problems. Thank you .

You can certainly shorten the downrod without any balance problems. However, if you are attaching it to a sloped roof, make sure you still have clearance for the blades on the downhill side! See whether the top or bottom has the most complicated attachment method and use the half that makes your rework easier. It's probably just a matter of drilling a new hole through the pipe (measure distance from the end carefully).

I don't have specific info for your fan, but generally they are about the same and referring to this picture, you can (sort of) see that at the top of the fan kit is a little cup that may have 3 screws on the side of it. If you take these out, you can disconnect the light kit with 2-3 wires. You'll need to find a solid cup to replace what you removed, or sometimes you can remove all the light stuff and reuse the old cup with a small plug in it.

    Best of Luck,

What is the model name of your fan? Usually you have the option to install it without a light.

    Cutting the downrod is fine.
