If you know you owe, how can you not know who you owe?

Did you get a letter, who did it come from?

Have you received phone calls, who is calling you?

You could pull a copy of your credit report and see what is on there?

I'm a little confused by your question.

You are entitled to a free copy of each credit report one per year. All you need to do is call them or go on their site find out their address and all info they require. I know you will need to send a copy of your drivers license and soc card. You will most likely need to do this by mail. This is a standard right of every person they just don't tell you cause they are trying to sell those credit score alert services. Everybody is trying to make a buck. Other than that if you call the collections place you just ask them but do not give out any of your personal info to them they may have the wrong person. Especially if you have a common name. So do not volenteer any info for them to attach to your file. Also, if you find false info on your credit reports like I did all you got to do is call each bureau after you have your report from them and explain how and why each thing is wrong. There was someone else's mortgage information who shared my first name, this was years ago but they took that off very quickly, without any trouble. I got several items removed from my husbands reports after some of the collectors discovered that they had the wrong person with the same common name.

Request verifcation of debt from the collector. If you do not know who you owe, tell them to prove the debt
