    Traveling on Felony Probation?
I'm an on probation for a felony that I committed over five years ago when I was just a stupid kid. I am on probation for three years now (I just finished a year of house arrest), and I have no contact with my P.O. I walk in there once a month, hand in my payment, and walk out... that's it. He doesn't even know where I live or have my cell phone or house phone number. I have a friend getting married in the Bahamas in about six months, and what I need to know is: (1) Can I get a passport while on probation without drawing attention to myself? (2) Do I even need a passport for the Bahamas? (3) Do they check for criminal convictions or probationary status when you fly, or when you leave the country? I don't want to hear the obvious "do the right thing" answers. I want to know the facts only. Thanks

Are you allowed to leave the State under your probation rules?

"The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States."

If you want to know the facts only I would suggest you contact an Attorney - we are all volunteers here and asking a question and then developing an attitude doesn't sit well with me. Sometimes you have to hear the speech in order to get the answer.

If your name shows up on the computer - and it possibly will if you are on open probation - yes, you will be stopped. And arrested if it is against your probation rules.

Leaving the country is NOT the problem. Getting back IN the country is the real problem. Your name probably will come up when you try and re-enter. Suggest you don't go. And no, your PO could care less who is getting married where so I highly doubt you will get written permission to leave country let alone the state.

You can get a passport, it is only a form of ID

Yes there will be a check on computer when you travel. And a note to the PO is very possible as you leave the county .

If your probation is so loose, just ask, it is easy to get approval.
