Truthfully, no, there isn't anything that you can do from your computer that isn't a scam. But you can do work from your computer in the way of typing and editing scripts for people working on books, students needing theses typed, etc. Advertise in the paper and see what you can get in that department.

What are some of the skills and interests that you already have? I am entirely self-employed. Almost all of the business that I get comes from the ads that I place on the Internet for free.

If you're not exclusively looking for something computer related here are some ideas that come to mind that I have done or had clients that did:
    1. Freelance programmer/web site designer/IT consultant/hosting provider.
    2. Investment adviser.
    3. Tax preparer.
    4. People/animal hair/fur clipper and knife sharpener.
    5. Seamstress/tailor.
    6. Airbrush artist.
    7. Machinist.
    8. Carpenter/antique restorer.
    .
    .
    .

I think many things can be made into a home based business. However, most real work requires skill/talent and filling a need that is lacking in your community or online.

Though it doesn't make a lot of money, one legitimate work-from-home opportunity is the telephone work that is done by charitable institutions to schedule pick-ups of donations from residences. In my area, the Salvation Army, Value Village and Purple Heart are firms that do this kind of work.

My wife did this for awhile, actually for more than one agency at once briefly-it costs no money up front, you go to a class, and they send you lists of numbers in certain areas to call to tell people that a truck will be in their neighborhood on a certain date and would they like to make a donation. There are probably agencies like this in your area, if so, give them a call. You work from home and there is a lot of flexibility in the hours.
