    Late husband's credit card debt
I recently lost my husband. There was no estate because I am his only heir and the only asset is a house which we jointly own! Therefore, there is no probate. He had four credit cards in his name as the cardholder. On two of the cards, I am the authorized user and on two of the cards there is no mention of me, whatsoever. Can anyone tell me which, if any, of these debts are my responsibility? The bills come due soon and I have no idea what to do about making payments!

I am sorry for the loss of your husband. I don't believe an authorized user is responsible for the account. But I'm certain the lenders will let you know their view of liability. What state are you in? It is possible that both of your names are on the deed, but is the title written in such language that there is 'right of survivorship', or does survivorship exist where you live by operation of law? I mean, it is possible where I live that the title is in the name of "Joe Smith and Mary Smith", but ownership is tenancy in common, not joint. And, without a will, you may have to probate/administer the estate of your husband.

My husband passed away at the end of last May. Since that time, I have diligently tried to pay off all his outstanding debts. His credit card with Chase had a substantial balance.
