Wondering Why I'm Not Pregnant. What's wrong?
Hello, my name is Ashlie. I have been with my fiancé for almost 2 years now, and for about the past 10 months we have been trying to conceive. My periods are normal every month, I even make sure to have sex when I am ovulating. Still nothing. However, excatly a year ago I had an abortion. The doctors said that since this was my first abortion that everything would be fine. I got pregnant the first time My fiancé and I had intercourse. And then I had an abortion. Now, a year later, I haven't been able to get pregnant. My everyday life-style as well as his has been the same. We are happy and everything is normal in this relationship. I'm just wondering WHY CAN'T I GET PREGNANT? And DOES IT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY ABORTION A YEAR AGO? Also WHAT SHOULD I ASK MY DOCTOR TO LOOK FOR? IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG AND I CAN'T GET PREGNANT HOW DO I BEGAN TO FIGURE THE PROBLEM OUT? WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WHY WOMAN CAN'T GET PREGNANT? And lastly, what are some of the steps that I can take to figure this problem out? If you would help me I would really appreciate it, And so would my fiancé. Thank you very much for your time.

    SINCERELY,
    ASHLIE AND HAMLET

About 85% of couples who actively try to get pregnant do so in the first year... by the end of the second year of trying, that number is above 90%... which mean most couples can naturally conceive within two years of actively trying.

Has your cycle been fairly predictable? Any illnesses and treatments or medications? Endometreosis? Adhesions?

Your age and his age can make a difference, with conception generally being harder the older you are. Doesn't mean you cannot get pregnant when older. Just means over time, the aging process actually affects the egg and sperm quality. So that's one more thing.

There are just a lot of factors that play into viability/fertility.

Smoking, drug use, sickness, stress, weight issues, inactivity, pollution, improper nutrition, failure to take a multivitamin, certain prescription drugs, high body temps, fallopian tube damage, low sperm count or/and problems with morphology and/or mobility... and on and on...

Point is, there can be a lot of things that can delay or make conception less likely. First thing you can do is be as healthy as you can be. Exercising, taking a multivitamin (one with taking folic acid to stabilize ovulation and increase implantation success, also for the man), minimizing unhealthy habits like smoking, exposure to smoke, alcohol, drugs use... "healthy living" equals better chances.

But, since it can be as simple as "bad timing" with no problems, things just not working out... or as complicated as several of the above conditions, including hormonal issues or anatomical issues, all compounding together... when in doubt, talk to a fertility counselor.

After a year of trying without success, some doctors would start to look at your lifestyle and any conditions which might reduce chances of fertility.

We can't tell you whether you have an issue or issues that can be compounding here, or whether all is optimal and its just a matter of time before you conceive. There's just no way to do this online.

But, as mentioned, educate yourself on how to optimize fertility and increase your chances. Lots of online resources. Most likely, there are resources at your local library as well. And, as mentioned, professional help from a doctor or fertility specialist can help wade through any issues.

Just saw you stated your cycles had been predictable. Missed that first time through. Sorry about that.

Maybe you shouldn't have had an abortion in the first place and been happy with the miracle you had
