    Re-entry at US
    Hi,

I have applied for post completion OPT (starts at May 5, 2008) for 1 year. I have a job offer letter and planning to join as soon as I will receive my OPT. Although my joining date is May 5, 2008, I may need to postpone my joining day by couple of weeks until I get my OPT from USCIS. As I have applied for post completion OPT, my NEW I 20 shows that my study will be completed by 05/02/2008. So, if I go to India now for couple of weeks, whether there would be any problem while re-entering US with my valid passport and job offer letter but WITHOUT my EAD card. My F1 visa will expire next year 2009.

    Thanks

The best chance is that an F-1 student on OPT who has received the EAD card, and has to travel abroad should make sure that there is documentation from his or her employer confirming the employment or the job offer. Otherwise the student assumes a risk that he/she may not be allowed to re-enter the United States.

Straight up here; when I was 18 I was arrested for 'theft under' ($500) at my workplace in Ontario. I went to court, was ordered to pay restitiution and see a probation officer for 1 year. I did all of that, and have since remained trouble free. That was 25 years ago. Now I have a wedding in...
