How to file taxes for part year resident in NY and NJ?
I worked in New Jersey for all of 2007. I lived in NJ from Jan to August and then moved to NY. How do I report my income to both states and what tax forms do I file for 2007?

You file income tax forms with both NJ and NY as a part-year resident - that's form IT-203 for NY and NJ-1040NR for New Jersey. The NJ form covers both your situation as a part-year resident for Jan - Aug and your status as a non-resident worker for Aug - Dec. Complete the NJ form first, then when you do the NY form you have to report your full-year income but you pay taxes only on the portion earned while a NY resident, and you take a credit for taxes paid to NJ. You will probably end up owing NY just a small amount, because of NY's generally higher tax rates than NJ. Also, if you live in NYC you will have to include their residential tax.
