Training a New Lab to pee outside
    Hi,
We have a new lab puppy. She is just 8weeks old. We are training her to pee outside, but we seem to be taking her outside about every 1/2 hour if she is not sleeping or playing. Is this normal? We also take her outside after a nap and after she eats. We are using a crate in the evening. The last time we feed her is at supper and then we take her food out of the dish, should we do the same with the water so she doesn't pee in her crate in the night?

    I would appreciate any answers

    I think it's normal.
It's kind of like having a little kid, they can't hold it as long as adults so they go as soon as they have the urge.
I think your doing the right thing taking her outside as often as you can (even though I'm sure it is annoying). When she starts to go in the house firmly tell her no, and then pick her up and take her outside to do her business.
I agree with stopping the water at a certain time, but maybe only about two to three hours before bedtime, as water is slightly more important than food.

    Hope this helps some.

Do you have playtime when you go out? That will encourage her and teach her that going outside to pee, means fun time too! It doesn't have to be long, just consistent.

It might also be a good time to introduce her to a leash, so she can associate the leash with pee time and playtime/exercise. Make sure you take a little treat with you when you go outside every time, so you can praise her when she does her job... of course with a lot lot of excited "gooood girl" praises too!

I agree that you should probably put the water up a few hrs before bedtime.

    Good Luck! :)
